As Jay at war with owl

Exactly a year ago, not far from my house, I noticed in a number of very old limes some loud confusion. I approached carefully and saw a jig flying around a large hollow in the lime and loudly calling out. When I crossed the other side, I saw an owl in the hollow. At first it seemed that she was slipping her eyes shut. Then after a few attacks of the jay, the owl slightly hid deeper and only part of the head was visible. Jay has not been quiet for a long time. Finally, the owl hid completely in the hollow and the jay waited a little and flew away. There was a problem shooting because of the scorching light and jerky motion of the jay from place to place.

Easter in the snow

Month of April turned out to be very variable weather. After a few days at the beginning of the warm weather came a very cool two weeks with nocturnal frost. April 16 was Easter and a big surprise. The morning greeted us with dense snow and became white. Snow did not last long, but the unpleasant cold remained. Here are some pictures taken from my apartment.

and blue tit settled the nesting box

Yesterday I wrote about starlings in my nesting box. Today the pair of blue tits, who also chose the booth as intended. For just two weeks the tits were looking into the new box. They came in and out, they sat on the nearby twigs. Recently I saw daily bustling around the box for fear that another couple would not take over. I hope it will be a good place to raise a new generation of these very small and useful birds. There was one more free shed for the tits or similar size of other henchmen. I think there will also be birds there.

the starlings already inhabited in my nesting box

On March 2 I posted a post about installing bird nesting boxes. I wondered if and what birds will settle them. According to the central construction, the box was designed for starlings. This spring spotted we have very early, because already 26 February. Already after two weeks the pair of starlings got acquainted with the new apartment and every morning from early morning it is singing their melodies. I watched the arrival of other starlings and the defense of the new home. It will be nice to observe when the breeding season begins. At about 20m the other 2 couples searched for cracks in an old building for nesting.
